Happy New Year 2019! We wish you all the best!

We have served the soba noodles on “Oomisoka”day (the New Year ’s Eve)! It’s for praying the longevity and leaving all the evil desires behind on 2018.

What we do on the day of New Year ’s Eve is eating the soba noodles, watching the red and white singing festival on TV, counting down for the coming year and going to the Shrine for praying new year’s good fortune with the people you love!

The otoso sake was served on the 1st day of January. It’s also one of the traditions in Japan for the beginning of the year.

*What is otoso?

Originally, the otoso sake was soaking the otoso powder (made from cinnamon, Japanese herb and etc.) into the mirin (a rice wine used as a flavoring in Japanese cooking). In ancient China and Japan, people drink otoso for longevity. Nowadays, we just drink the tasty sake instead of otoso, but the same meaning of praying for long lives.

Thanks all the guests joining us with the otoso serving!

And always remember, “Don’t drink and drive!”

We appreciate for the all of the guests staying with us on 2018 and we look forward to welcoming you again in 2019!
